Tolerance of Talinum triangulare (Water-Leaf) to crude oil polluted soil

Abstract
Investigations were made on the effect of Bonnylight crude oil on stem sprouting of Talinumtriangulare. Five concentrations of crude oil viz,2.5ml, 5.0ml, 7.5ml, 10.0ml and 12ml wereapplied to 7kg of dry soil in perforatedpolyethene bags. The experiment was carriedout on a completely randomized design (CRD)and replicated 6 times. Data on the number ofdays to sprouting, number of branches, numberof leaves, leaf area and plant height werecollected. It was observed that the differentconcentrations of crude oil significantly(p<0.05) affected the number of leaves.Although there was no significant difference(p> 0.05) for number of days to sprouting, plantheight and number of branches between theplants in the treated soil and control group,there were physical effects of stunted growthand death of plants. The concentrations of crudeoil, however significantly (p<0.05) affected soilproperties like Ca, Mg, ECEC, soil pH,available phosphorus and Total hydrocarboncontent.
